Impairment Study

The impairment study is performed to revise the underwriting manual and to verify the rationality of the existing underwriting system. This time we analyzed the mortality ratio by age at issue. policy year and cause of death. and appraised the risk of each impairment by using the investigation data from the investigation of substandard risks conducted by Reinsurance Department of The Kyoei Life. the investigation of declined lives (Mortality Investigation of Declined Lives in Japan 1979) and substandard risks (Mortality Investigation of Substandard Risks 1987) published by the Medico-Actuarial Mortality Investigation Committee of the Life Insurance Association of Japan. It is questionable to compare the three studies respectively because these issue years. observation years and basic mortality tables are different. but we ventured to try the risk appraisal of impairments by these investigation results. Therefore this point should be kept in mind on the occasion of referring to the result and the risk appraisal of this book.
